One of the books I follow is Tony Ryder's "The Artists' Complete Guide To Figure Drawing".
He proposes a very novel method of drawing from the outside in, ignoring what I've always read about, by forming the figure using spheres, egg shapes etc. The results he has are amazing. This techique though doesn't always work for me.
This is one of the outlines done using the envelopes. At the moment, I'm not focusing on detail at all, just wanting to understand the form and shape.

More older sketches
Not perfect with the shading practice, but I decided to more on to figuring out negative space. Just looking at the empty spaces around the subject, and ignoring the details inside.
By this time, I've found out that the British Museum has late night opening hours on Thursdays and Fridays till 8.30pm, and I do occasionally pop by on weekends for a sketch or two.

WUFF!!!
Older sketches
I started out following books like How to draw the comics the marvel way, some loomis books, how to draw animals by Jack Hamm etc. This was about december 09/jan 2010, prior to this I was doing stuff like Drawing on the right side of the brain - which didn't really work for me.
My guide told me to not worry so much about proportion and go ahead with using shading to understand the form.
Here's a few photos. I usually try my best to do at least one sketch a day, which takes anywhere from a few minutes to a quarter hour, sometimes more.

Wuff Art!
Hello,
Alvin here, this is another blog for my 2d sketches. wolfbrother.blogspot.com would be my other blog for my work/photography updates and general stuff.
There ain't going to be "art" here, not so soon at least, but I was recommended to upload my sketches online to see how I progress over the months.
This is my 3rd attempt at life drawing - my ultimate goal is of course, drawing wolves. First two attempts were fail. This is my 3rd try, this time I have proper guidance from a friend.
Why drawing? I have several goals
- Develop my creative side
- Draw wolves
- Observe things with greater detail*
Let's go, shall we?
*being INFJ, I realized that this co-insides with the development of my 4th Inferior function, which is Sense.
