24th July 2010

Brought an A3 pad out to sketch in the V&A museum. It's a breath of fresh air compared to the Brit Museum, since all the sculptures are more or less new to me. A4 was primarily for warmup gesture drawings.

I'm entertaining the possibility I may be on the edge of burnout. Best I throttle back for awhile.

In anycase, I spent some time going through George Bridgeman's book, trying to understand anatomy, and muscle structure. The human body is facinating, yet fragile.

Did a study of my Schleich Alsation dog for today's sketch-a-day.

For slower stuff, I'm back to the 1mm 2B mechanical pencil. I think for quick gestures, the thicker 7B pencils work better.

12th July 2010

With Mark Nicoll's semester over, I am now temporary visiting another new life drawing location till the next term. This is hosted by Adrian Dutton near Bethnal Green Tube. Good fun, had a few quick sketches, 15 second gestures (fun!) before we went into longer poses, and finally finished up with a 40minute long poses that yours truly got bored, and decided to go off tangent.

Here's a few of the sketches I care to share :D

11th July 2010

Spent some time in the national portrait gallery drawing the busts there, as well as trying to analyse how artists draw. In this case I was trying to understand the artwork of Bridget Riley.

10th July 2010 - Watercolor pencils :3

Just testing around with my set of watercolor pencils. One of my favourite artist is Goldenwolfen and it seems she uses watercolor, color pencils, acrylic so I'm kinda trying out the medium she uses.

10th July 2010

Spent yet another good few hours at the zoo today, dang it is hot! And humid right now too, as I write this post. I need a fan for my room.

Just filled up one sketch book, now another begins!

Few of today's practice sketches. Did some longish sketches then dropped to quick gesture drawings. Then tried lines on that dog. Not really in the mood sadly, thinking about how to solve a work problem mrr....

8th July 2010

Today is the last day of my life drawing classes. Next semester will start in September, hopefully work will not be too busy and I can join up again. Mark Nicoll is a very patient instructor, and I look forward to continue under his tutor-ledge.

Today's session was similar to last week; we started with.. 6 minute drawings IIRC, gradually dropping to 15 second gesture sketches. After which, we did a long drawing. Lovely time.
